Hello, Girl Lux girls!
My name is Allison and I’m a guest blogger this week. Maggie, Girl Lux’s communications director, introduced me to Girl Lux and I immediately thought, “wow, this is such an awesome company! How cool is it that they are focused on making girls feel comfortable and stylish all at the same time!” I knew I had to get involved and was so excited when I was asked to write a blog post about living a healthy and active life -something I am very passionate about.
Can you believe summer is almost here? I hope that you are as excited as I am for all of the fun that comes with the warm weather! I love that the long, warm days allow me to spend more time being active outside and hanging out with my friends and family. Summer not only brings warm weather and sunshine but lots of opportunities to be healthy and active!
You have probably heard a million times how important it is to live a healthy and active life, but have you ever thought about how much fun it also is? Think about the things that you do for fun. What makes you feel happy? What makes you feel strong? I, for one, love to be outside as much as possible. Growing up in rural Southwest Virginia I spent more time outdoors than in. My friends and I would play freeze tag for what seemed like hours at a time! We also loved kickball, football, swimming, and anything else that kept us moving. Now I live in Washington, DC and really enjoy exploring my city through running, biking, and walking. It’s such a fun way to see all of the beautiful sights while living a healthy lifestyle.
Not a lover of the outdoors? That’s okay! You can find fun ways to stay active inside, too. Something I like to do on rainy days is catch up on my favorite TV shows. During commercial breaks, I see how many jumping jacks I can do. Having a sleepover with your friends? You can have a friendly competition to see who can do the most jumping jacks while the popcorn is popping!
Of course with the summer comes heat so I can’t leave out a critical tip: always stay hydrated! Regardless of the season, I have a bottle of water with me at all times. Even throughout the day while I’m at work, I am focused on drinking plenty of H20! Staying hydrated is critical to your active and healthy life. It helps to keep your body temperature normal, cushions your joints, and protects your spine. Not a huge fan of plain old water? Throw in a couple of slices of your favorite fruit, like slices of lemon or lime, to flavor your water with a delicious twist and extra hydration!
What will you do this summer to stay active and healthy? Be creative! Be you! Think about things that you really enjoy doing and who you enjoy doing them with and get out there and do it! You’ll not only have an awesome summer but you’ll know that you are living a healthy and active life!
